Learn to feel at home in the dental chair!

Dreading your next dental appointment? Imagine a life in which you don’t feel unhappy or anxious when there’s a procedure on the books. Relieving your fear of the dentist will result in long-term benefits for your oral health and your overall well-being. You have enough stress in your life – why not soothe it when you have the chance?

Improving Your Dental Attitude for Better Oral Health

Dental anxiety has serious ramifications. Sure, it makes you feel uncomfortable in the moment, but years of this anxiety can result in a changed attitude toward dentistry. When you’ve only ever associated dental treatment with fear, it’s nearly impossible to feel good about an appointment. This can lead to procrastination. Anxious patients tend to put off scheduling their regular exams, afraid that they’ll have cavities and need to have work done. Unfortunately, this avoidance of appointments usually ends up resulting in cavities, making the patient’s fears come true.

Break this cycle! By learning to embrace dental treatment, you’ll actually see improved oral health. It’s necessary for your dentist to see you at least every 6 months (and sometimes more often, if you’re in a high-risk category). But you have to schedule appointments in order for that to happen. No one will force you to go to the office – you have to motivate yourself. At a loss as to how to make that happen? Read on for some tips.

Time in the dental chair can actually be relaxing!

Hinsdale Dentistry offers various forms of dental sedation. But sedation doesn’t mean anything unless it’s backed by a soothing environment and comforting team. We provide that happy combination to help you feel great at the office. Within our practice, you’ll feel at ease and surrounded by professional support. If you’re ever feeling anxious, please – let us know. Once we’re aware of the situation, we can provide the best possible solution. Dental anxiety is nothing to be ashamed of, and it’s an incredibly common problem. Tell us about your feelings toward dentistry to let us serve as your allies!

A few of the ways we ensure you’re comfortable include:

  • NuCalm – NuCalm is a revolutionary, drug-free relaxation method. It tends to multiple senses (sight and sound) to help your relax in the dental chair. NuCalm’s natural formula calms typical sources of adrenaline, relaxing the brain to bring it to a pre-sleep state. With chewable tablets, soothing music, and shaded glasses, the entire system is simple to use and comfortable for the patient. After NuCalm, there’s no recovery time or side effects; in fact, many patients report feeling refreshed and renewed.
  • Nitrous Oxide – Nitrous is a long-standing source of relaxation for dental patients. It is typically inhaled throughout the course of treatment. The nitrous gas induces a euphoric state, during which the patient is completely fine with every aspect of treatment. Nitrous typically wears off soon after treatment.
  • Oral conscious sedation – Some patients benefit from taking an anti-anxiety medication prior to treatment. We will prescribe this to you before the big day so that you’re prepared.
  • Communication – We believe in letting patients know about every aspect of their procedures. This level of communication keeps them knowledgeable about what’s happening, and comfortable with the different steps. We will talk to you throughout your treatment to keep you in the loop.

Just a reminder: sedation does not numb patients to pain. Sedative measures will be accompanied by local anesthesia whenever there’s a chance of discomfort.
